I received a text message while at the gym early this
morning from a client who’s visiting his family on the East Coast.
Part of his message said “Sitting here, looking at the ocean
with my grandchild in my arms.”
And immediately I thought about the contrast between this
message and what this man was like when he first came into TLC a few years ago.
He was totally lost in those early days and literally stayed
sober from moment-to-moment. He had been in dozens of treatment programs and
incarcerated more than once for addiction related crimes.
There was no way
anyone would have wanted him around their family. Yet, today, he’s reunited
with them and earns enough to periodically travel from his home in Arizona to
visit.
His success shows how once an addict or alcoholic achieves
sobriety their lives can be restored.
