Today
we’re dealing with an addict who thinks he's special. And how do we know? We don’t
have psychic powers. His behavior tells us.
He
came to us with a job skill we needed – and he applied for the job after being here a few days. When we saw he was qualified we put
him to work. That's when the problems
started.
At
first he didn't like the house he was in. Then management was out to get
him. His roommates were picking on him. They were jealous because he worked for TLC. Because of that, he needed to move near the main house. With this guy,
it's always been something.
But one
thing he learned about TLC today - in a group held especially for him - is that
no one holds us hostage. He learned that we've closed businesses because a
client thought we couldn't get along without him.
The
primary purpose here at TLC is to help people rebuild their lives. Jobs are
secondary. When clients come in and think that their recovery is all about
getting back to work they’re sadly mistaken.
We
know that most addicts can find jobs; our
big challenge is to get sober.
