Real Help

One of TLC's subsidiary operations is Temporary Labor Company.

This company sends out as many as 50 people a day to employers in Maricopa County. It's a beneficial arrangement for TLC because those who work are able to pay their service fees and work on their sobriety. The employers benefit because they get sober employees delivered to their door, outfitted with hardhats and work boots.

Our arrangement with employers is that they can't hire our clients until after they work for their company for 90 days. Often a company likes the client’s work and will offer a full-time job. At that point some clients leave because they feel their real issue is employment. And when they leave, they usually owe us several hundred dollars in back service fees.

When a company hires our clients before they complete the 90 day grace period we usually discharge the client and discontinue sending employees to that company. While this might seem unfair to those who don't understand recovery, our mission is to help rebuild their lives. When clients break their agreements and leave without paying that runs counter to everything we teach about honesty and sobriety. And when an employer collaborates with our client in this way he's saying he care more about profits than about this person's recovery.

However, some employers support us 100%.  Below are excerpts from an email from an employer who agrees with the way we operate.

“I appreciate the time you were willing to spend with me this morning.  I have learned a valuable lesson in this process.  Should there be men in the future we wish to extend employment to, I will choose to visit with you or Jeremy personally to establish a better understanding of that man’s progress and standing with TLC.  I am impressed with your efforts to help others through a difficult uphill climb.  I am certain your time and investment is well spent in helping to rehabilitate those in need.

 “If your client chooses to abandon your program, we will not provide him with employment.  If there are any setbacks for him, will you please make us aware? “

This man has everyone’s interests at heart: his own, TLC’s, and the client's. Everyone benefits from this kind of relationship.
