Not Even a Day Off

A friend lost his job this week and made it through the crisis with the help of the 12 steps and his circle of recovering friends.

As soon he found out he'd been fired he picked up the phone to let everyone know what had happened. They provided emotional support and encouragement as the reality of being jobless settled upon him.

It was miraculous to see this man deal with this transition with calmness, clarity, and a belief that he would soon find another position. Because last year this magnitude of crisis might have sent him back to the bottle.

As time passes I've seen this man weather a few crises and each time he comes through the other side sober. Once he had a serious confrontation with a supervisor that finally resolved itself when my friend accepted his role in the situation.

And, guess what? It all turned out well when someone he knew from previous employment called to offer him work. He wasn't unemployed for even a day. Another example of the blessings of sobriety?
